UTRGV Baseball\u2019s Tuesday night game against Texas A&M Corpus Christi at home has been postponed, according<\/a> <\/strong>to a news release from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Monday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the news release, a Tier I member of the Islander baseball program tested positive for COVID-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Tier I member, according<\/strong><\/a> to the NCAA, consists of student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and physical therapists, medical staff, equipment staff and officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both teams were scheduled to play the first of two games as a part of the South Texas Showdown, with the second match taking place April 13 at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second occasion in which the Vaqueros missed out on playing against an opponent as their opening series against Lamar was canceled<\/strong><\/a> due to COVID-19 related reasons with the Cardinal program.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the new release, both programs are currently working to reschedule the game for later in the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last time the Islanders came to Edinburg was on March 11, 2020 when they fell 1-4, in what would be the now-infamous last game before the COVID-19 shutdown last spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Headed back to 2000 when both of the programs first matched up, Texas A&M Corpus Christi leads the all-time series 48-42 but UTRGV has won five of the last seven matchups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vaqueros are still scheduled to host their first Western Athletic Conference (WAC) four-game series at home this weekend against WAC-leading<\/strong><\/a> California Baptist University.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening pitch will be 6 p.m. Thursday and fan attendance will be capped at 1,000 in accordance with gameday protocols<\/strong><\/a> that include social distancing, face covering and temperature checks before entering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
