{"id":5523,"date":"2023-01-23T14:07:26","date_gmt":"2023-01-23T20:07:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/?p=5523"},"modified":"2023-01-31T11:57:54","modified_gmt":"2023-01-31T17:57:54","slug":"professor-vs-rate-my-professor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/index.php\/2023\/01\/23\/professor-vs-rate-my-professor\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor vs. Rate My Professor\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Rate-My-Professor-Article-Graphic.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5524\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/RateMyProffessorVsProfessor_mixdown.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Rate My Professor has ratings categorizing professors around the United States to help students choose classes who best fit their way of learning, however there are on-going debates on whether the website could be&nbsp;&nbsp;biased or beneficial.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The website uses a one to five star rating system with one star being the least amount of points given, along with a comment describing their experience with the campus, class or professor.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UTRGV as an institution is currently rated at a 3.5 overall quality, with more than 360 ratings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UTRGV Studio Arts sophomore Ricardo Hernandez has previously used the webpage and claimed it to be biased.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said negative reviews are more often to be found, in order for students to know what to expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cIt gives us a heads up on what the upcoming challenge we are going to face,\u201d Hernandez said.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although it is a good way for students to interact, UTRGV Public Speaking Professor David Hinojosa does not think it to be accurate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cIt could be beneficial but not entirely.\u201d Hinojosa said. \u201cIt should be like a platform for students to form their own opinions about the class, but not necessarily should rely on it 100%.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To find out more about professors and their class, Hinojosa recommends students to email the professor directly about questions they may have, to avoid askew answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finance junior Karina Ruiz believes it to be beneficial,&nbsp;&nbsp;and that reviews are meant to be read by both future students and professors alike.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Ruiz, if a professor is proficient, most of the reviews found on the website should be accurate with the exception of several opinions from other students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruiz mentioned an occasion where a review about a professor seemed to prove accurate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cMaybe for one class, but it was mostly to get back at a teacher.
