The theme for this year was modern composers of the 20th and 21st centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said the concert had a range of compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cThis past Sunday, we did Arvo P\u00e4rt, Khachaturian,\u201d Kinsella said. \u201cThere are some Persichetti, there was some movie music, Prokofiev, Schoenberg, Tokuyama, Raotavaara. There are so many new names for the piano repertoire that we showcased.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kenneth Saxon, UTRGV School of Music associate professor, said there are many preparations that go into piano concerts. Saxon said in order to ensure the quality of their performance, the students practice for months once they receive the piece they will play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduate student Jose Hernandez said that he felt prepared for the concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cThe stuff that I played was the six pieces from Schoenberg,\u201d Hernandez said. \u201cWhen I played it out there, I felt like I had fun. I felt like I did enough.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He mentioned he growed an emotional connection with his piece and some of the segments even though his piece was in atonality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinsella said how the concert was mainly voluntary based for both students and faculty especially if they are interested in the theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s basically [a] volunteer basis.\u201d Kinsella said. \u201cWe faculty assign the pieces to our students, but really we see the progress of each student and if they\u2019re really into it then they\u2019ll pick up [the piece].\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Saxon said they played 100 years of music during their performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p> \u201cIt covers lots of styles and a long time period too.\u201d Saxon said. \u201cIt\u2019s over 100 years worth of music just in the pieces I\u2019m playing.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinsella encourages people to attend events such as this, where they can express their interests, not only in piano concerts but also in the many other concerts that the university offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about music and concerts, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utrgv.edu\/music\/\">https:\/\/www.utrgv.edu\/music\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Pete Mendoza for Vaquero Radio.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pete Mendoza With beautiful compositions, a large repertoire, and months of preparation, the UTRGV School of Music hosted<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":32,"featured_media":6408,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"cybocfi_hide_featured_image":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[555,41,44,42,26],"class_list":["post-6407","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-entertainment","tag-555","tag-fall","tag-news","tag-students","tag-utrgv"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.4 -
