He said he hopes to inform the Rio Grande Valley more about this subject and expand nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of right now, around 10 teams are competing and play a wide range of video games. Madera said when recruiting players, he tends to look for an individual who is proficient and who is willing to take the captain position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cWe try to bring in everyone involved, but depending on which team you get put onto will just be depending on how well you work together,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The club competed in a College Clash online tournament last Wednesday against other universities. Madera said even though his players\u2019 skill levels are good, a lot of them said it was their first time playing at such a high level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to be able to like start practicing to a point where in the fall, when we get into the league, we\u2019ll be ready and we\u2019ll be proficient,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, it was tough for them, but it was one that I think they needed to see where they stood on the ground.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One misconception Madera tries to stray people away from, is that esports is not just video games.
