{"id":8421,"date":"2026-02-23T12:00:47","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T18:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/?p=8421"},"modified":"2026-02-23T12:01:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T18:01:09","slug":"utrgv-celebrates-10th-annual-charreada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/23\/utrgv-celebrates-10th-annual-charreada\/","title":{"rendered":"UTRGV Celebrates 10th Annual Charreada"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Charreada0223.2_mixdown.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">This year will be the 10th annual Charreada event UTRGV hosts to celebrate charro days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student Activities Program Coordinator Erin Ferrell said the goal of this event is to strengthen culture on campus and honor local traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u201cIt connects us to the community of Brownsville, connects us to our heritage, our cultural roots and also emphasizes the relationship and the sisterhood between Matamoros and Brownsville,\u201d\u00a0 Ferrell said.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ferrell said attendees can look forward to a grito contest, best dressed contest, folklorico performances, mariachi music, a horse dancing performance and a live band.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An approximate of 15 student organizations will also participate selling items like elotes, tacos, raspas and aguas frescas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campus Activities Board Member Paola Aguirre said the event will offer a unique experience for students who have never attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aguirre said the event organizers partnered with Glady\u2019s Porter Zoo and will have a petting zoo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campus Activities Board Member Jadda Lopez said she appreciates collaborating with other staff members across campus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lopez said the Charreada 2026 will build pride within students for being part of UTRGV.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u201cIt will be four hours of fun basically,\u201d Lopez said.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Charreada&nbsp; will be held at the Student Union lawn from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb.25 on the Brownsville campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about the Charreada 2026 visit V link.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year will be the 10th annual Charreada event UTRGV hosts to celebrate charro days.
