{"id":8539,"date":"2026-04-08T08:49:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T14:49:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/?p=8539"},"modified":"2026-04-08T08:49:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T14:49:21","slug":"mens-tennis-team-focus-on-final-matches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/08\/mens-tennis-team-focus-on-final-matches\/","title":{"rendered":"Men\u2019s Tennis Team Focus on Final Matches"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Tennis-FinaleR.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">As the season is coming to an end, the men\u2019s tennis team is currently preparing for their final matches of the season working up to qualify into the Southland Conference Tournament.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The men\u2019s tennis team has seen mixed results this season, picking up a win over Texas A&amp;M- Corpus Christi while falling in a close match to Lamar and struggling against Incarnate Word.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head coach Nathan Robinson said the team has been in winning positions, but finishing has been a challenge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cNot what we expected, basically, a little below bar. We\u2019ve had some really good wins and competed well, but haven\u2019t crossed that finish line as much as we\u2019d like to,\u201d Robinson said.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As the season progressed, players say previous matches have helped the team better understand what is needed to compete for the Southland Conference Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduate student and team captain Sam Whitehead said that change has been noticeable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cI think our mentality has improved compared to where we were at the start of the semester, to now I think we have improved mentally and we&#8217;ve still got work to do but I think that&#8217;s improved a lot,\u201d Whitehead said.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophomore Loic Young Kriegel said the team is staying confident as it heads into its final matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cWe had really good matches with Corpus at first. After we lost to Lamar really tight and we didn\u2019t play that good against Incarnate Word. But I think if we make the conference tournament, we can do really good,\u201d Young said.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With only a few matches remaining, Head coach Nathan Robinson said the team\u2019s success in the finale matches will come down to confidence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s really going to come down to belief. It\u2019s not about who\u2019s the better tennis player, who\u2019s not.
