{"id":8587,"date":"2026-04-20T09:18:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/?p=8587"},"modified":"2026-04-20T10:18:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T16:18:07","slug":"a-journey-of-shared-healing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/20\/a-journey-of-shared-healing\/","title":{"rendered":"A Journey of Shared Healing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/completed-council-0420.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The Counseling Center hosted \u201cA Journey of Shared Healing\u201d on April 13 to reflect the experience of struggling with mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event featured local authors Arlene Cantu, who wrote <em>What If<\/em>, and Shawn Elliot Russel, author of <em>Be Still Oh Little Tree Be Still<\/em>, who spoke about their personal journeys with mental health and how those experiences shaped their work for children and young adults.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through open conversation, both authors shared how writing became a powerful outlet for healing, growth and connection, creating a space where attendees could reflect on their own experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diana Landeros, case manager at the Counseling Center, shared with us her experience when dealing with difficult emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cPain can be universal, but we can find support in one another,\u201d Landeros said.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Russel also shared insight into the emotional themes behind his writing and the importance of acknowledging personal truth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cA lot of pain can come from denying what you know is true within you or what you feel is true,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>George Sein, a student employee for the Counseling Center, said the environment allowed for deeper interaction and meaningful dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cThis time it felt like we had time to interact a little more,\u201d Sein said.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Organizers say events like this aim to promote mental health awareness while encouraging students to find healthy ways to express themselves and connect with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Diego Montano for Vaquero Radio.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Counseling Center hosted \u201cA Journey of Shared Healing\u201d on April 13 to reflect the experience of struggling<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":43,"featured_media":8601,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"cybocfi_hide_featured_image":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[692,831],"tags":[832,571,26],"class_list":["post-8587","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-health","category-on-campus","tag-832","tag-mental-health","tag-utrgv"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.4 -
