{"id":8845,"date":"2026-10-12T09:19:33","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T15:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/?p=8845"},"modified":"2026-10-12T09:19:34","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T15:19:34","slug":"power-in-pink-for-breast-cancer-awareness-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/12\/power-in-pink-for-breast-cancer-awareness-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Power in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/utrgvradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Power-in-Pink-FULL.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">UTRGV\u2019s University Recreation hosted Power in Pink on Thursday, October 8, bringing students and members of the university community together in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event featured high-energy cardio activities designed to promote physical wellness while raising awareness about breast cancer and the importance of prioritizing health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Director of University Recreation, Calvin Diggs, said the event attracted a significant number of participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u201cI think the last time I heard when they scanned in, it was almost 200 people that had scanned in,\u201d Diggs said.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power in Pink also provided an opportunity for attendees to connect with university wellness staff and advocates while participating in activities centered on health community support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Facility manager at University Recreation, Fernando Lam, said encouraging people to prioritize their health is a key part of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWe want to make sure that everyone gets the help that they need and take it as a priority, just like any other thing in life. Health is just as important for everyone else,\u201d Lam said.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For students, the event also served as a reminder of the importance of understanding how common breast cancer is and bringing attention to the disease among younger generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Junior majoring in Bilingual and Childhood Education, Angeline Hernandez, said events like Power in Pink can help college students become more informed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u201cI feel like breast cancer, where it just kind of goes unnoticed as in how common it actually is.
