UTRGV’s Summer Relief Package is an “incentive” to get students to register for Summer classes according to Patrick Gonzales, assistant vice president for marketing and communications.
This package is available to all students and the only requirements for these benefits is to be enrolled in at least six hours of Summer classes. Gonzales explains why the Summer Relief Package was created.
We wanted to come up with an idea, to come up with incentives, to provide relief for our students during the summer.
The Summer Relief package offers $1,000 tuition relief, free Zone 2 parking for Fall semester, $100 in V-bucks, and some UTRGV Swag. Gonzales tells us how students can sign up for the Summer Relief Package.
There’s actually no sign up! The great thing about this relief package is that it’s for everybody.
If a student already paid off their whole Summer tuition before the Relief Package got put into effect, then they will get a refund of $1,000, according to Gonzales.
He adds by saying that UTRGV understands what their students are going through, and they don’t want the pandemic to define them.
We just want our students to know that UTRGV understands what they have gone through. We want to provide relief; we want to provide support because the biggest thing for us is that we don’t want this pandemic to define our students.
Mass Communication Junior, Marcos Cabrera explains why he thinks the Summer Relief Package is “helpful.”
It’s really helpful, because the perks of getting more of your tuition payed for, I know the Pell grant doesn’t pay for everything, so the thousand dollars that’s going to get added will pay for the rest of it. And then, getting free parking permit I’m saving a hundred dollars there.
