The annual Fiesta De Palmas will offer attendees cultural activities, music and food from Friday through Sunday at the McAllen Convention Center.
McAllen Corporate Relations Manager Joe Garcia said the city is fortunate to have a department dedicated to host special events.
Fiesta de Palmas will have a three-day live music setup of local and viral talent. The festival will also host a variety of activities for the public, such as a pumpkin patch, EduFiesta, Beer Around The World, silent disco, a fireworks show, artisan mercado, community ofrenda and the grand carnival.
Garcia said Texas Parks and Wildlife will be a part of Edufiesta activities, which will be held indoors. Edufiesta will offer an indoor archery range and teach children about nature.
The McAllen Fire Department will also be present showing children a fire extinguisher simulator, and people will also be able to play with robots.
“And so, that’s where we’re really tapping into the family aspect of it, through Edufiesta, and that, of course, is brought to us by the airport,” he said. “The airport is a presenting sponsor for that section.”
Fiesta de Palmas will also have a section for a community ofrenda. Residents were able to send pictures of their loved ones to the McAllen Convention Center for display.
Garcia said the people will be able to write their loved ones names and write down their favorite memories.
Director of Creative Arts Studio Agusto Contreras is in charge of the community stage where local talent will be displayed.
“My role is to create the community stage, which is the stage where we present schools, community artists, local artists, of course, Creative Arts Studio talent, but not only Creative Arts Studio talent, we have School of Rock, and we have other schools coming to our stage,” he said.
Tickets for the festival will be available at the Fiesta de Palmas website.
