SheSTEM supports young women in the Rio Grande Valley pursuing STEM careers through mentorship, events and community partnerships. With its expansion to UTRGV, the organization continues to provide students with opportunities to get involved.
President of SheSTEM Chapter 3 Valeria Delgado said the student organization has expanded its membership across the Valley.
“It has grown to have over 260 members all across the Rio Grande Valley, and we have three chapters. Our third chapter is actually UTRGV, which is why on V Link, we are named SheSTEM Chapter 3,”
Delgado said.
Beyond academic and professional development, SheSTEM also organizes activities designed to encourage participation and strengthen relationships among its members.
Delgado said the organization offers opportunities for students to network and meet new people interested in the same fields as them.
“We like to do fundraisers and bond just as a group itself. It’s a very fun thing to do, and I recommend it to anybody who wants to be in the STEM field or doesn’t see themselves in a STEM field but wants to make friends,” Delgado said.
The organization also emphasizes creating a supportive environment where members can share experiences, build relationships and encourage one another.
Vice president of SheSTEM chapter 3 Marselle Sandoval said the club provides more than academic and professional opportunities, describing the organization as a community for students in the Rio Grande Valley.
“It’s more of a community, so being able to interact with one another and to help each other out, especially here with us being in the Valley,” Sandoval said.
Through its three chapters and growing membership, SheSTEM continues working toward its mission of increasing opportunities for women in STEM while creating a supportive community across the Rio Grande Valley.
Students interested in learning more about the club and its activities can visit the organization’s website at shesstem.com or find SheSTEM Chapter 3 on UTRGV’s VLink platform.
