October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services’ website “One in eight women born today in the US will get breast cancer at some point.”
Student Health Education Coordinator, Cesar Quintanilla, tells UTRGV Radio that although women have a higher risk, men should also learn how to screen their body.
“I think one of the stigmas we all go through in our life is like ‘it’s not going to happen to me’. But it’s also important for men to screen themselves and touch themselves under the breast area under the arm area, because again, it can also affect males.”
The UTRGV community can visit the Health Services Clinic to learn how to do perform a self screening.
