Due to Covid-19, for the remainder of the Spring semester, UTRGV Student Activities’ events will take place through Zoom. According to its website Zoom is a “cloud platform for video and audio conferencing, collaboration, [and] chats.” President of Campus Activities Board, Fransisco Leal shares why Student Activities uses Zoom for their events.
Based on some of the platforms that the University has as Skype and Zoom, we felt that Zoom would have a better quality to it. It was easier to have more individuals within events that we wanted to host moving forward, we decided to go with Zoom.
The only way to access the links for the Zoom meeting room for events is through UTRGV’s V-Link. Leal explains why the Zoom meeting rooms could only be accessed through V-Link.
We wanted to ensure that only UTRGV students where participating in the events and winning some of the prizes that will be given away.
Some of the prizes that have been awarded through Zoom already is a Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch games, and Pizza delivered straight to the student’s home.
Mass Communication Junior, Claudia Lamas shares her thoughts about UTRGV events being moved to Zoom.
Due to this pandemic I think, UTRGV events being moved to Zoom is actually a great way to keep students engaged from the comfort of their own home.
To get access to the links for the Zoom meetings UTRGV students must login to their UTRGV student account. Then click on V-Link. Once you are on V-Link click on the events calendar where it will display all events. Click on the event you want to participate in and from there you can request for the Zoom meeting room link.
