On the last day of march, UTRGV announced that students, faculty and staff will receive a pro-rated reimbursement for the parking permits. Director of Parking Services, Pablo Aguilar explains how the pro-rated refund works and when it started.
So, the whole process is the cut of date was March 17 and from that day forth we are starting to pro-rate the days left for students and parking refund.
For example, if a student purchased a $100 zone 2 parking permit for the 2019- 2020 school year, they will receive $48 as the pro-rated refund, according to the mass email sent by the university.
The email also states that the reimbursement will go to the student’s account and no action is needed in order to receive it. Aguilar explains that the monies original purpose was mostly for improvements.
The parking services revenue goes toward safety and security, parking lot re habilitation, parking improvements, lights, surveillance, cameras. That’s were usually the monies that come in from parking services go.
Mass Communication Senior, Jamie Rios says that he thinks that the reimbursement is fair and believes the University is doing a good job.
So, I think they handled it pretty well, where they are not doing everything what the students want because then it wouldn’t be in [the University’s ] favor but they are not being selfish with the money that they have. They distributed evenly to stuff that we will need during the summer or later on in the future.
Aguilar says the reimbursements are handled case by case, and there is no secure date as to when students will receive it, be he assures it will be as soon as possible.
