UT Health Rio Grande Valley opened their third testing center at the Mercedes Family Health Center. Senior Director of Clinical Operations, Linda Nelson explains why they opened a new testing center in Mercedes.
We chose Mercedes because there was nothing in the Mid Valley and we had people come to Brownsville from Edinburg. We’d like for people not to travel.
The first two locations for COVID-19 testing are at the Edinburg and Brownsville campuses. Nelson adds on by saying that there will be a fourth location opening tomorrow.
On Tuesday, we will be opening in Harlingen.
Nelson says that the testing centers see over 100 patients a day for COVID-19 testing.
Nelson confirms that due to the new testing center in Mercedes, they have been receiving enough lab equipment to test around 600 people a day.
We are getting some new lab equipment, that will give us the capacity to do 600 a day.
English Senior Miranda Vick shares her thoughts about testing centers being more accessible.
I think it’s great that it is more accessible. It gives people who are living at home, who are living in other cities, access to these tests that are really important.
