Thanksgiving: What are you grateful for?

Thanksgiving: What are you grateful for?

With Thanksgiving being celebrated this week, members of UTRGV Athletics continue to practice and prepare for the upcoming seasons that are looming overhead.

UTRGV student-athletes, coaches and staff tell us what they are thankful for this year.

Lea Karren, UTRGV women’s tennis freshman

“Hello, I’m Lea Karren for the women’s tennis team. This year I’m thankful to be here and play the sport that I love. I’m also thankful for my friends, my family and the coaching staff for believing in me and supporting me. Happy Thanksgiving and V’s up.”

Rogelio Chanes, UTRGV assistant athletic director for development

“Hi, my name is Rogelio Ernesto Chanes and I’m the Assistant Athletic Director for Development at UTRGV Athletics. I’m thankful for being in good health, spending as much time with my son and going golfing as much this year as I did last year. Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving and V’s up.”

Euan Gill, UTRGV men’s golf graduate student

“Hello, my name is Euan. I’m a graduate student on the men’s golf team here at UTRGV. This year I’m very thankful for my family. They’re always there cheering me on in good times and there to support me when times are tough. I’m also very thankful for technology because it allows me to speak to my family every single day even over thousands miles away. I’m very thankful for those things. I hope y’all have a very happy Thanksgiving and V’s up.”

Chasse Conque, UTRGV vice president and director of athletics

“Hello Vaqueros, this is Chasse Conque, Vice President and Director of Athletics here at UTRGV. As we approach Thanksgiving what I’m most thankful for are relationships. 2020 has been trying for all of us, personally and professionally, but it’s truly the relationships that we have that helps us get through these tough times. Whether it’s personal relationships with our families or professional relationships with those that we work with, I am certainly blessed in both of those areas. Happy Thanksgiving, continue to stay safe and V’s up.”

Danny Elizondo, UTRGV assistant athletic director for communication

“Hi everyone, this is Danny Elzondo the Assistant Athletic Director for Communication with UTRGV Athletics. 2020 has been a different year for everyone and even though we’ve gone through so much there’s always something to be thankful for. Personally I’m thankful for my family, my friends, my co-workers who are my second family and all whom I couldn’t be who I am, where I am without them and most importantly you got to be thankful for all the little things that make you smile each and every day. I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving and V’s up.”

Julie Lucio, UTRGV women’s golf sophomore

Hi everyone, I’m Julie Lucio with the UTRGV women’s golf team and this year I’m thankful for being a part of such an amazing team and athletic program. I’m thankful for my friends and family that support me throughout anything I do. I’m thankful for my dog Luna. I’m thankful just to wake up and have a cup of coffee to get my day started. Remember that today’s a gift that’s why it’s called the present. I hope y’all have an amazing Thanksgiving, god bless and V’s Up.”
