In the midst of Homecoming Week, UTRGV continued the celebration with the annual Homecoming Parade on the Edinburg Campus, last Thursday. An event that intended to unify students, alumni and staff.

Assistant Director of the Edinburg Student Union Massiel Muñoz said homecoming events are planned at the beginning of the fall semester. Muñoz expressed the importance of these celebrations.

“To build community within our campus,”she said.”…To really see us in community to celebrate our orange pride, faculty, staff, students and alumni working together to support each other in a very bright orange spirit.”

Student Union employee Ximena Guzman said the main purpose of the homecoming events is to get the students involved, especially freshman, as well as to show spirit and let students be a part of UTRGV.

Nutritional sciences freshman Selena Palomo said she was in attendance at the event to support the Nutritional Sciences and Health Society. The organization had members painting attendees’ faces in university colors.

“I hope in the future,” Palomo said. “Once I become senior or junior to get more involved, maybe join or work for someone on campus that does events.”

To add to the celebrations, UTRGV drum line gave a performance that energized the crowd and added to the festive atmosphere.

The parade also featured students showcasing their personalized cowboy hats and marching proudly through the campus Bronc Trail.

The Burning of the Letters that was originally planned to be held last Thursday, was rescheduled to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the UTRGV Baseball Stadium parking lot.
