Last Tuesday before the scheduled Brownsville I.SD. board meeting, elected member Erasmo Castro was served a lawsuit to be removed from office.
The local government code states that an officer may be removed from office do to misconduct or intoxication caused by drinking an alcoholic beverage.
The plaintiffs are Zachary Blevins, Jesus Guevara, Josue Covarrubias and Rocio Patino.
Blevins says he decided to serve the lawsuit in the hopes to see some change in public offices.
“So, I hope it sets a precedent for other politicians and public figures to reign in their behavior and start treating these positions with the respect that they deserve.”
The lawsuit states that Castro was arrested by Brownsville Police earlier last month, he was charged with a DWI after failing a sobriety test.
UTRGV Radio News tried interviewing Castro after the public comments.
“We have a meeting, it won’t be but 15 minutes, and we will be out.”
UTRGV Radio News waited for an hour for the closed meeting to end. We have not received a response from Castro.
According to the District Office 197, a hearing for the lawsuit has not been scheduled.
As the case develops updates will be provided on utrgvradio.com
