The Western Athletic Conference has come to a halt to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19, according to its website. WAC canceled all competitions and championships for baseball, golf, tennis and track and field, amongst others.
In the official press release from the WAC, last Tuesday the Board of Directors decided to cancel all athletic events for the remainder of the academic year and beyond.
UTRGV Athletic Director Chasse Conque says all athletes and staff are “accounted for”. Conque also went on to say, UTRGV Athletics is working closely with UT Health to ensure the health and safety of all student athletes and staff.
Over the weekend, all UTRGV athletic facilities have undergone deep cleaning in efforts to prevent COVID-19, which includes the Fieldhouse, the UTRGV Baseball Stadium and athletic training rooms.
Currently there is no timetable for the return of athletic competitions in the Western Athletic Conference.
