The UTRGV Center for Latin American Arts is hosting Noreste a virtual art exhibition and roundtable discussion in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month which ends on Thursday.

The art exhibition can currently be viewed on the UTRGV Center for Latin American Arts’ website while the roundtable discussion will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday via Zoom.

Director for the Center of Latin American Arts and a curator of Noreste Katherine McAllen explains how the round table will work virtually.

“…Cesar Martinez, Mario Jimenez Diaz and Rigoberto González will all be present to answer questions,” McAllen said. “They will be presenting a short PowerPoint to discuss their artworks in the show and the meaning of their art and its cultural relevance.”

The exhibition features work of Rigoberto González, a UTRGV lecturer from the School of Art, Mario Jiménez Díaz from Matamoros, Tama-u-lipas, Mexico and César A. Martínez from San Antonio.

Gonzalez explains why he decided to participate in the exhibition.

“It’s always good to display your artwork and expose people to your artwork that way to educate the public on what’s going on, [and] educate them on the issues that are happening,” Gonzalez said.

McAllen also mentions that two guest moderators will be attending to ask questions and help start conversations during the roundtable discussion.

According to the center’s website, Noreste brings together the joint talent of renowned artists from both sides of the Rio Grande River to showcase bi-national contemporary art and visual culture in Texas and Northern México from the Rio Grande Valley.
