“Metamorphoses” will feature a blend of American Sign Language and water elements and will premiere at the end of the week at the UTRGV Albert L. Jeffers Theatre.

“Metamorphoses” is a modern adaptation of ancient Greek mythology that explores themes of transformation, love and the power of storytelling, actress Natalie Palacios said.

Palacios shared her favorite part of the production is building a connection with the crew.

“With group ensemble shows, it really is to get you to see everyone almost every day,” she said. “And you get to talk to everyone and connect with everyone, and I really, really enjoy that part of this particular rehearsal process.”

Program Coordinator for the American Sign Language Interpreting program at UTRGV and Director Brian Cheslik described what can be expected of the production.

“This show is going to be a visual sensory feast,” Cheslik said. “With all the different elements of ASL, of intimacy, of water play, of lights and of sound. It’s going to be epic.”

He added his favorite part of the production is to see the actors fully immerse themselves in their characters.

“I love involving my actors in the story because they’re the ones who are living and breathing these characters,” Cheslik said. “I’m making my vision, the actors are creating the characters.”

Stage Manager Valeria Mendoza said her position is an organizing and coordinating role. Mendoza added the collaborative effort between the cast and crew is essential to bringing the production to life.

She is most excited for the elaborate water scenes where the audience can be fully immersed in the play.

“Metamorphoses” opening night is Friday and will run until Sunday. Individuals can buy their tickets at showpass.com.
