ALPFA and ENACTUS financial literacy panel in Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship Diego Montano / Vaquero Radio
A month focused on financial literacy brought students together inside the Robert C. Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship, where four expert-led panels covered topics ranging from personal budgeting to career paths in real estate and accounting.
ALPFA and Enactus hosted the financial literacy panels. The student organizations aim to strengthen professional development.
Outreach Director for ALPFA and senior finance student, Daniela Flores said the partnership between the groups makes events such as these possible.
“ALPFA and Enactus have a very close relationship. So every other meeting we have is a partnership with Enactus, so we kind of collaborate and make sure that both of us, because we have similar goals in mind. So Enactus members and ALPFA members can come to the same meetings and get the same valuable lessons,” Flores said.
Panelists included real-estate employees, CPAs and financial professionals from across the Valley. Each session allowed students to ask questions and receive advice directly from industry leaders.
Economics senior and historian for Enactus JD Domingues said one concern going into the week was turnout, but he was pleased with the response.
“I think their biggest concern was the amount of people showing up, but I know Enactus is relatively big. We have a lot of people interested, and the points we do reward them for coming and the free food always help,” Domingues said.
Enactus President and accounting senior Valeria Escobedo oversaw the logistics and said it was all a team effort.
“My secretary was the one who reached out to the panelists. She scheduled the date, sent them the parking permits, as well as the questions. For me, it was just overseeing the email and making sure everything was in check,” Escobedo said.
