Girls Who Code is a new UTRGV club that began in Fall 2025. The club is about empowering women who would be interested in pursuing a career in the tech and coding world.
The organization focuses on creating real-world projects to strengthen students’ technical skills.
Members can learn a wide range of computer science topics, including web and app development, data science, upcoming technologies, while also enhancing leadership skills.
Girls Who Code outreach coordinator Adachukwu Ikondu said the organization will start operating workshops and other activities.
“Teach them certain programming languages, like Java or SQL’s whichever one and or networking sessions,”Ikondu said.
Ikondu said members will take away three benefits from the organization.
“To communicate more technically, the ability to grow their skills and the ability to purpose plan,” she said.
Girls Who Code average coordinator Valeria Lopez said there is not a lot of representation for girls involved in the tech world, which inspired her to join the organization.
“I think this club is doing exactly that, showing up for girls and expanding our knowledge of it,” Lopez.
She said Girls Who Code helped her gain confidence in her computer science knowledge.
Girls Who Code social media manager Youmna Galal said all majors are welcome in the club.
Galal added computer science and electrical engineering majors would benefit the most.
Galal said her personal Girls Who Code goal is to help other members.
“Making sure that we all feel included and if people are interested, we can always collaborate and just make more connections,” she said.
Students interested can email adachukwu.ikondu01@utrgv.edu or message the organization on Instagram @girlswhocodeutrgv.
