Campus takeover Wednesday at Pine Circle and Sundial on the Edinburg campus Diego Montano/Vaquero Radio
UTRGV hosted Vaqueros Clubs: Campus Takeover Wednesday between the Pine Circle and the Sundial on the Edinburg campus, bringing together student organizations and students interested in becoming more involved.
The event featured student organizations, activities and opportunities for alumni to learn more about different groups available at UTRGV.
Vice President of the American Society of Civil Engineers Destiny Cruz said the event provides an opportunity for organizations to introduce students to ways they can become involved on campus.
“I think it’s really cool to tell incoming freshmen or anybody who’s really interested in getting involved on campus about the different opportunities that we offer,” Cruz said.
Other organizations used the event to promote their clubs while also collaborating with other campus resources.
President of the Nutritional Sciences and Health Society Reyna Pulido said her organization participated in multiple activities during the Campus Takeover.
“It’s been great. We actually had two events going on,” Pulido said. “We were promoting NSHS as part of the Campus Takeover initiative, and we also performed a food demo in collaboration with the Food Pantry.”
Student organizations also highlighted the resources they provide to members in their academic and professional programs.
Treasurer of the Graduate Rehabilitation Counseling Association Kate Tovar said the organization helps students with some of the costs associated with professional certifications and exams.
“We offer aid to those students who are in the program, maybe who need help with their LPC exam, CRC certificate ’cause it could be kind of cost demanding,” Tovar said.
The Center for Student Involvement will host another Vaqueros Clubs: Campus Takeover from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Main East Front Lawn on the Brownsville campus.
