The Stomp Brings Students Together To Kick Off Fall Semester

The Stomp gave UTRGV students an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of the fall semester, meet fellow Vaqueros and experience activities available across campus.

UTRGV hosted The Stomp Thursday night on the Edinburg campus and Sept. 1 on the Brownsville campus. The event featured live music, fun activities, prize giveaways and businesses.

Exercise science sophomore Ryan Melendez said students should not be afraid to attend events even if they come alone.

“I know it can be, like, a little, I guess, nerve-racking to come by yourself, but it’s really easy to make friends, bro. Like, if you have at least one common interest, bro, like, I would be your friend for like the next 10 years bro” Melendez said.

The event also relied on student employees to help organize activities and keep students engaged throughout the night.

Student Union Student Assistant Steven Miclat said he had a blast working the event.

“A lot of students has just the energy. Coming here to The Stomp, and everything has just been nice, especially handling the events and machines. Pretty cool,” Miclat said.

While The Stomp gave students an opportunity to connect with others, some Vaqueros were unable to attend the event.

Computer science senior Gabriel De Carvalho said he had never attended a Stomp event at UTRGV.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to come again, but if I could, I definitely would,” De Carvalho said.
