UTRGV students have experienced interruptions with campus Wi-Fi in recent weeks, with some students saying unreliable connections have made it more difficult to complete academic work and access online resources.
The issues have affected students in different areas of campus, including the library and the writing centre.
International business Junior, Samuel Snell said he experienced problems while trying to complete his weekly routine on campus.
“I was in the library. I was trying to study for a quiz that I was halfway through, but it wasn’t working,” Snell said.
The disruptions have also affected students working with the UTRGV Writing Center, where students depend on internet access to submit and work on assignments.
Graduate student in the criminal justice program and a Writing Center employee, Ethan Garcia, said some students were unable to submit their work on time.
“Students were trying to send in their online assignments, but we weren’t able to get to them in time, so we had to, like, push everything back by a couple hours,” Garcia said.
UTRGV’s Network Services said the university is aware of network issues and is working to improve connectivity across campus.
Director of Network Services Jose Sanmiguel said the university is addressing network performance beyond just its wireless services.
“We do have issues like everybody else has, right? But, we are working on improving services, not just on wireless, but the network itself in general,” Sanmiguel said.
