Students interested in adventure, cultural exchange and global exploration came together to learn about education abroad during an event Jan. 26 on the Edinburg campus.
The Center for Student involvement hosted Travel Talk last week in the Bronc Room.
Travel Talk was designed for students to meet new people and learn about opportunities to study abroad. Through conversations and networking activities, attendees were encouraged to think beyond material interests and invest in meaningful experiences.
UTRGV criminal justice senior Eduardo Aceves said travel can shift personal priorities.
“I feel like in our culture, it’s very enticing to be materialistic, but if you don’t give into that materialistic life and you’re able to divert those funds, attention and energy to travel, you’ll have a way happier life,” Aceves said.
The event also attracted international and exchange students who saw Travel Talk as an opportunity to build connections within the university community.
UTRGV exchange student from Austria Daniel Krajinovic said the event helped him meet new people as he adjusted to life in the Rio Grande Valley.
“As an exchange student, of course you want to travel and get around. And then I met new people, which is important if you’re new to a place, to network,” Krajinovic said.
The event featured information on study-abroad programs, encouraging students to consider applying to study in another country.
Krajinovic said the small details made the event more memorable.
“There was, of course, free water and food. And then you could take souvenirs. I got a keychain that was really nice. I actually hang it down by my keys,” he said.
