La Unión Chicana de Hijxs de Aztlán (LUCHA), serves the Rio Grande Valley and UTRGV for the advancement of Hispanics and all cultures.
Through partnerships and campus involvement, LUCHA creates opportunities for students to engage in activism, cultural events, and leadership development.
Vice President of LUCHA, Diego Vigil Alas, said the organization has made him feel more comfortable and involved.
“It doesn’t even matter if you know Spanish or if you’re Hispanic,” Vigil Alas said. “It’s just for anybody who’s really looking for a place or it needs help from the community.”
LUCHA also works closely with other campus organizations and departments to expand its impact and reach more students.
Secretary of LUCHA, Lexus Lopez, said the importance of teamwork and shared her positive experience in the club.
“It’s a collaboration. So we work with Puentes, and we work with the Mexican American Studies (MAS), and we just collaborated to bring more students,” Lopez said.
Treasurer Daphne Escamilla said the organization’s objectives are for growth.
“We embrace the conocimiento of oneself and the power to create change,” Escamilla said.
