Constitution Day gave the UTRGV community an opportunity to learn more about the U.S. Constitution while participating in activities and receiving information about civic engagement and voter registration.
The event took place from 10 a.m. to noon and featured activities designed to encourage students to learn more about the Constitution while connecting with members of the UTRGV community.
The event provided students with information about voter registration and the rights and responsibilities of citizens in time for the midterm elections in November.
Early education major, Alicia Smith, said students could also reach out for any doubts related to the topic.
“They can also ask about voting registration, so if they are not registered to vote, they can ask us about that,” Smith said.
Smith also said learning about the Constitution can help citizens understand their rights and the laws that apply to them.
“It’s important for citizens of the United States to know about the amendments and what you can and cannot do in terms of legality in the U.S.,” Smith said.
International business major, Elijah Davis, said students could participate in Constitution Day trivia and may get prices for participating.
“In order to celebrate, we have Constitution Day trivia. The students are able to take it, and once they take that, they get a free snack,” Davis said.
