UTRGV welcomed Chasse Conque as the new vice president and director of athletics. Conque and his family were introduced last Wednesday on the Edinburg campus by President Guy Bailey.
“He comes really, highly recommended. This is a major step for us in athletics. I can’t tell you how important this–This is our red-letter day that, I think, signals a great resurgence in our athletics.”
Conque served as vice chancellor and director of athletics at the Univeristy of Arkansas at Little Rock. He moved to the Valley with his wife Lisa, and their three daughters, Julianna, Sydney and Adeline. Conque told Student Media that he plans to find ways to engage the community with the athletics department.
“I look forward to working with all of the different communities that makeup the Valley. I look forward to working with Brownsville and doing creative things there to really engage those students with what we are building here, on this campus.”
Conque said that he does plans to inhance the basketball game day experience. Biomedical Science Juinor, Jacob Maciel said he would like the athletics department to have an equal funding distrubution.
“To make sure that everything is like properly distributed between the sports and stuff and like the facilities and thing like that.”
Conque said he is impressed with the student enrollment and the spirit the community has. In his opinion this is a turning point for UTRGV and athletics.
