Tennis, volleyball put on hold due to weather conditions

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced two events have been canceled due to weather concerns, according to multiple news releases earlier today.

The first of the cancelation is a part of the South Texas Showdown between Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV volleyball that was scheduled to be played 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Fieldhouse.

The Vaqueros fell in their first season matchup against the Islanders 0-3 (23-25, 15-25, 18-25) at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi on Jan. 22.

At the moment, the match is not set to be make up but could be rescheduled at a later date.

The next game on the slate for the Vaqueros is on the road as they will face WAC opponent Grand Canyon University at 8 p.m. and 4 p.m. Feb. 22 and 23, respectively, in Phoenix.

The second cancelation due to inclement weather is UTRGV women’s tennis Feb. 19 match-up at Sam Houston State University.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, temperatures are expected to be at a high of 39 and a low of 26 degrees Fahrenheit.

The match is not currently scheduled to be made up.

This is the second matchday that has been canceled for the women’s tennis program as their Saturday matchup at St. Mary’s in San Antonio rescheduled to March 8 due to inclement weather.

The next scheduled game day for the tennis program is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, vs. the University of Houston.

Weather conditions in Houston are expected to be at a high of 59 degrees Fahrenheit with a low of 50.
