
Google has partnered with UTRGV in an initiative called “Grow with Google” to enhance Digital Literacy skills among students of the Rio Grande Valley.
Director for the Career Center at UTRGV, Kamara Jackson, explains that Digital Skills are essential because it is the platform for the world of work. This collaboration with Google will help students in the Rio Grande Valley immensely.
Jackson explains what this initiative means for UTRGV,
“UTRGV was selected along with 19 other institutions as a means to implement a google digital platform of career and life skillsets…It will work in concert with instructors and faculty and staff here as well as those efforts for the career center as a means to prepare opportunities and have students well versed in how to articulate themselves whether through a resume or through interviewing spaces; but also it provides life skills such as learning how to create a budget, being able to navigate technical platforms including google itself.”
Professor of Computer Science Dr. John Abraham explains what Digital Literacy is,
“Digital literacy is a very broad field. Anything that has to do with internet and computer science or computers… it’s endless”
Psychology major and Junior at UTRGV, Melody Cavazos shares her opinion on the partnership with Google.
“I think it’s a really positive thing, I think digital literacy is really important. You know, with the way things are going… technology is super super important. And the more accessible it is for everybody the more everybody has [an] equal opportunity to learn and that’s super super important.”
