The UTGRV Men’s soccer team took down the Xavier University Musketeers with a score of 2-0. The team took the field on Sep. 11  at the UTRGV Soccer & Track and Field Complex in Edinburg, TX.

Going into the match Head Coach Brehmn Hancock reflected on previous games to achieve the win against the Musketeers.

“I think anytime here at home you want to make sure one keep a clean sheet, but also get goals,” Hancock said. “I think we got off to a rough start last match so I challenged the guys. Could we get off to the right start? And we did that.”

In the first half of the match it was a slow start for both teams but the Vaqueros were able to maintain the score 0-0.

Onto the second half the action took place. Allowing sophomore forward Kgodiso Sukati and graduate student forward Bryant Farkarlun to score.

Sukati has been a key player at scoring goals for the team. He discussed what his main focus was for the match and for the season.

“The coaches brought me in to score goals and that’s my main aim,” he said. “So if I can just score goals and help the team win I’ll be happy.”

Farkarlun was able to score the second goal with an assist from junior midfielder Josue Camacho.

“It was a difficult pass but it had to be controlled [in] some way,” Farkarlun said. “And it was a great teamwork all together.”

The two teams brought force in the final minutes of the game, but the Vaqueros out scored the Musketeers.

The Vaquero’s next home match will be against the University of Nevada Las Vegas Rebels, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
