UTRGV Professor Honored with 2024 Hispanic Women Making History Award

Assistant professor of practice in the UTRGV Robert C. Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship Sylvia Robles, has been awarded the 2024 Hispanic Women Making History honor by the Hispanic Women Network of Texas RGV Chapter.

Robles was recognized for her dedication to empowering young Hispanic women and men in pursuing their academic and professional goals. Through her leadership and commitment to diversity, she has made a lasting impact on the community.

Robles said she is not receiving this award for herself, but for the community that has helped her along the way.

“To me, it is just a testament to testify-not me- but the hard work all of the persons. I did receive the award, but it wasn’t me who deserved it,”she said. “Whoever has been a part of Adopt a Startup program, as a collaborator, as a judge, as an entrepreneur, as a student, as a colleague, is part of this award”.

She believes that the recognition should be shared with everyone who has contributed to the success. Robles hopes that this award will inspire others to continue working towards creating a more inclusive community.

“This award exemplifies the leadership, the perseverance, and the unwavering commitment of many women in the community who are trying to make a difference,” she said.  “And highlights those efforts from the women in the valley who have done amazing in their own fields.”

She hopes women who have aspirations continue to strive for more and never give up. She also emphasized the importance of supporting and uplifting other women in their endeavors.

“You are powerful, you are amazing, and I want you to repeat this to you every day you look at yourself in the mirror,” she said. “You are amazing; you are a gift in life because its you; nobody is like you; you are irreplaceable; you are unstoppable; you are amazing; and having that mind, you will get to whatever your goal is.”
