Bobby Pulido’s speech on Oct.27 at ESTUN, College Dems Diego Montano | Vaquero Radio
A student organization gathered students and community members last week at the PlainsCapital Bank Theater on the Edinburg campus to hear from two local candidates, including Tejano star Bobby Pulido.
The RGV Democrats hosted the event, which aimed to engage voters at UTRGV ahead Tuesday’s Election Day, encouraging civic participation and dialogue between candidates and students.
Pulido will challenge Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz for Texas’ 15th Congressional District. He said he decided to run for office and is now turning his attention to public service and political representation.
“I think I’m in the right time, right place to make a difference and represent my people the way they deserve to be represented. And so, that’s why I decided to run,” he said.
Pulido spoke about his motivation to run for congress, emphasizing his desire to bring honest and community driven leadership to the Rio Grande Valley.
Joining Pulido at the event was Texas House District 41 candidate Julio Salinas who shared similar priorities focused on improving the quality of life across the Valley.
“So, my intention and my goal in this race is to bring back that sense of community and bring back that low cost of living that allowed the Rio Grande Valley to be the best place in the world to live,” Salinas said.
He will be challenging Democrat Rep. Eric Holguin for district candidature.
UTRGV senior Eduardo Aceves attended the conference and shared his perspective as a first time voter.
“So, definitely going to the conference made me very much alert, and I’m happy that I went there because I need to vote now,” Aceves said.
