Students hanging out at the late nite event at the UREC. Diego Montano/Vaquero Radio
Late Nite at the Rec brought UTRGV students together Thursday night for games, sports and activities to build connections across campus.
The event took place from 9 p.m. to midnight and featured activities including basketball, tennis, sand volleyball, fitness competitions, group exercise demonstrations and poolside games.
For some students, the event was an opportunity to meet new people and connect with familiar faces on campus.
Freshman mechanical engineering major Christian Gonzales, said he spent the evening exploring the event and meeting other students.
“I just walked around, tried meeting new people. Tying to see who I recognized. Just overall, have fun,” Gonzales said.
Other students said the event was better than they thought and provided a welcoming environment.
Attendee at the event, Andres Garcia, said he enjoyed meeting other students and felt included throughout the night.
“I think it surpassed my expectations. I met some really fun people here. I didn’t feel left out or anything. I think it’s pretty fun. I think everyone should come,” Garcia said.
Students also participated in activities designed to encourage social interaction and creativity.
Junior psychology major, Ari Torres, said she spent part of the evening doing one of these activities with friends.
“We did mostly walking around. We made friendship bracelets, and yeah, it was pretty cool,” Torres said.
