DJs are not employees of UTRGV Student Media. The position is an unpaid involvement opportunity. DJs are allowed a one-hour-per-week time slot and a maximum of two hours per week with permission from Vaquero Radio staff.
- DJs must sign the written statement acknowledging that they understand and will abide by the policies and procedures of Vaquero Radio.
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NO guests are allowed in the studio. Maximum of 2 DJs are allowed per show. NO EXCEPTIONS.

- Each prospective DJ must interview with one of the following:
- Vaquero Radio Faculty Adviser
- Vaquero Radio Station Manager
- Vaquero Radio Assistant Station Manager
During this interview, prospective DJs will record a demo consisting of a two-minute article reading and a throw to song.
- Each DJ MUST attend orientation and training provided by the Vaquero Radio staff. During orientation, DJ training will be conducted by the Station Manager and any approved staff on a one-on-one basis with equipment and software in Edinburg or Brownsville.
- Each DJ’s first show will be PRE-RECORDED and played the first day of the semester during their designated timeslot. After this preliminary show, all DJs must broadcast live during their designated timeslot each week. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Applicants must be available for the mandatory orientation prior to the semester and must maintain a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher per semester to remain a Vaquero Radio DJ. DJs must inform the Station Manager at least 24 hours in advance if they are unable to broadcast during their shift. Less than 24 hours’ notice will be considered a no-show. More than 2 consecutive no-shows will result in disqualification from further participation. A maximum of 3 non-consecutive no-shows with prior notice will lead to disqualification from further participation. These policies do not necessarily apply in emergency situations and are up to the discretion of the Station Manager.
