Students gather at the Student Union Commons for Union Con 2026 on the Edinburg campus.
The Center for Student Involvement hosted Union Con 2026 on Wednesday at the Student Union Commons in Edinburg Campus.
Union Con brought together students for a celebration of comics, video games, anime, film and cosplay, creating a space where creativity and community could come together .
Activities included video game tournaments, a cosplay contest, interactive workshops, along with participation from several student organizations.
Christian Hernandez, presenter for the UTRGV H-E-B Planetarium, shared his experience in his presentation, which focused on sharing educational opportunities with students.
“During the presentation, I explained about our various services that we have at the planetarium, including showing educational films to the student body and anybody else who wants to come,” Hernandez said.
Students also had the opportunity to participate in hands-on experiences and competitions throughout the event.
Carlos Rivas, a computer science and manufacturing engineering student, said he enjoyed the variety of activities offered.
“I’ve been on the 360 camera, also on the tournament, on this workshop that I’m gonna pay like some t-shirts that’s gonna be you pretty cool,” Rivas said.
Beyond the activities, attendees emphasized the welcoming environment created by the cosplay and fandom community.
Selena Salazar, a communication freshman, shared with us her insight as a cosplayer.
“The people who dress up, they’re not gonna judge you for anything either. And everybody who does dress up, they’re so kind and they’re so helpful. It’s just like, you can really find a community within the people that dress up,” Salazar said.
Organizers said Union Con aims to continue growing as a space where students can express themselves, connect with others and celebrate shared interests.
