After losing 2 matches and tying their last, the UTRGV men’s soccer team has identified one
major area that needs improvement: finishing. Despite creating opportunities and controlling
possession, the Vaqueros know they need to turn those chances into goals.
Head coach Brahim Hancock said the team had 78% possession in its last match and created
four strong scoring opportunities.
“For us, it’s just capping off our possession into good scoring chances.”
The team has focused on improving in the final third during training, while also preparing for
opponents who may play with more possession.
Hancock said the team wants to be aggressive defensively and create more opportunities on
the counterattack.
According to forward Eduardo Oliveira, the team needs to improve being in front of the goal.
“More hunger to win its our house we have to win we have a lot of fans coming out also we just excited to you know we score once two three goals as many goals we can.”
Team captain Mohamed Pouye remains confident despite the recent results. He says the team
has had strong training sessions and believes the players are ready to correct their mistakes.
“We’re still in good shape, like, still confident and everything. We know we got this.”
With the team continuing to work on its finishing and final-third play, the Vaqueros are looking to
turn their chances into goals and get back on track.
When is the next game? What is next for them?
