Last Tuesday the UTRGV baseball team went up against the Houston Baptist Huskies. UTRGV took the win with a final score of 6 to 0. The Vaqueros got off to a fast start, scoring 5 unanswered runs by the bottom of the 3rd. The game went scoreless until the 8th inning when the Vaqueros added one run. Head Coach Derek Matlock tells us more.
[su_quote]I don’t think we’ve beaten those guys either, to be honest as UTRGV, so I know they put it on us last year 3rd place. That was fun to get a win, but you still do dumb things like runners, in scoring positions, leaving a couple guys stranded in the first four games of the season.

UTRGV’s first baseman Jacob Flores led both teams with a batting average of .600. UTRGV pitcher Jerred Quartier logged the win and Huskie’s pitcher Daniel Endsley took the loss. Left fielder Elijah Alexander shares more on the winning moment.
[su_quote]It’s really exciting, but knowing that we have our fans behind us, Jerry over there on the other team. It’s very exciting and a privilege for us, because we don’t have to travel anywhere and stuff and we get to stay here at home and stay here where we play our best.

The win put the UTRGV Vaqueros at 2-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. The next game for the Vaqueros baseball team is this Friday, March 1st against the Rhode Island Rams. The game starts at 7pm at the UTRGV baseball stadium. For full schedules and updates visit goutrgv.com
