The UTRGV Women’s Basketball team went up against the Chicago State University Cougars this past Thursday, with the Vaqueras taking the win, 84 to 38. The Vaqueras started off with a strong offense, shooting 8 for 13 and going for 14 unanswered, midway through the 1st. The Cougars couldn’t keep up and found themselves down 22 to 43 at the half. As a team, UTRGV forced 15 steals, taking 27 points off turnovers. Head Coach Lane Lord explains.

Forward Alexandria Cliff was the only Cougar to score in double digits. UTRGV’s starting five scored 48 points. Guard Amara Graham scored the first 5 points in the first 30 seconds. UTRGV shot 42.3 percent from three and 47.5 percent overall. The Cougars didn’t score from long distance, but Vaquera Guard Idïl Turk scored three consecutive threes. She finished with a game-high 14 points. Turk tells us more.
