Freshman Samantha Garza participated in her first collegiate golf tournament for UTRGV Women’s Golf at the Hobble Creek Classic in Springville Utah, at the par 71 Hobble Creek Golf Course. Garza talks about UTRGV’s first action of the season.
“It felt great, I was excited to be playing with my team the first and second round, and then it was just a great experience out in Utah.”
Garza helped UTRGV finish in 13th place with a combined score of 911 after 3 rounds of play. Garza was the highest placed player for UTRGV Women’s Golf, at 42nd, with a 3 round score of 227. Garza likes the teams consistency but know the team could lower their score.
“Getting that number lower, I mean, last year the scores were kinda up and down but this year with finished 316, 298, 298 it is pretty consistent, I know we can go lower.”
UTRGV Women’s Golf next tournament will be from September 31st to October 1st at the Bearkat invitational in Magnolia, Texas. The tournament will take place at the High Meadow Ranch Golf Course where Garza has played before.
“It’s Sam Houston, one of good friends goes their, and I’m just excited to go to Magnolia. I’ve been there a couple times but I’m excited to play with my team there.”
