The Student Union at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley hosted their annual Halloween Costume Contest this Thursday.
Students from the Edinburg campus entered for a chance to win 100 V-bucks. The famous penguin tells us how he feels about the being a part of the event.
“I thought ‘eh’ might as well go to the contest while I’m here. I’m supposed to wear all day-my sister told me to. Eh if I get first place that would be nice.”
The contestants were judged by UTRGV Head Coach Lew Hill, Theatre Department Professor Jennifer Saxton, and marketing and Student Development Coordinator Cristina Rodriguez.
Associate Professor for Costume Design at the Theater Department Jennifer Saxton tells us what she thinks about the student’s costumes.
“I was surprised by the variety; I was amazed by all the performances. I was so surprised by the Freddy Mercury performance. I thought it was fantastic how the crowd participated.”
Over 20 students participated in the event. Good Omens winning 3rd place, Jinx winning second, the great owl winning 1st and the fan favorite winner Tina.
Saxton believes more students should dress up for Halloween, regardless of the social sigma’s surrounding it.
“More people should do it; life is too short.”
