The United States Department of State has issued a update on April 3rd regarding processing times surrounding US Passport Applications. There are expected to be significant delays regarding any new online mail-in applications, with this also comes the suspension of in-person applications at physical agencies.

In the latest statement from the US DOS, there are however certain qualifications and exclusions for those who can request a passport in person physically.

We are only able to offer in-person service at passport agencies or centers for customers with a qualified life-or-death emergency…

Life-or-death emergencies are serious illnesses, injuries, or deaths in your immediate family that require you to travel outside the United States within 72 hours.

The US DOS assures that all passport applications filed before March 20th will still be processed in a timely manner, however more recent applicants should expect these significant delays.

To learn more on these deadlines and online applications call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 on Monday- Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This is Jerry Galindo for Vaquero Radio News.
