UTRGV Women’s Basketball Associate Head Coach Anna Nimz was named the new Women’s Basketball Head Coach at Northwestern State University, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The move for Nimz comes after spending two years with UTRGV on Head Coach Lane Lord’s staff.

Lord says Nimz time and experience with UTRGV helped her get the job at Northwestern State.

To be a Division I head coach, there is only, I believe 353 Division I programs, and for her to get this opportunity not only speaks to her character and her leadership ability, but also the experience she has here at UTRGV, I think really helped her get the opportunity to be a Division I head coach.

Nimz also was previously a Head Coach at Kilgore College for three years and Labette College for seven years.

Lord also went on to say that Nimz can connect with any player which will make her an excellent Head Coach at Northwestern State.

The most important thing in coaching is to have the ability to relate to all players of any diverse background and she is able to do that. She has that personality and really it all goes down to loving the kids, treating the kids with respect, but the most important part of this gig of coaching is the relationships that you build along the way.

Ultimately Coach Lord and the rest of the UTRGV Coaching Staff are happy and excited for Coach Nimz as she takes the next step in her coaching career.

All 4 of us are so happy for her. This is why you are in the business to challenge yourself to get yourself to the highest level you can, and she was able to do that.
