The UTRGV athletics department welcomes Mark Foster as the new women’s soccer head coach.
After a call with his former colleague at Little Rocks and a visit to UTRGV, Coach Mark Foster accepted Vice President and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque’s offer to become the new head coach of the women’s soccer team.
Foster is from Newcastle, Ireland, and played for the Kilmore Recreation Football Club in the Irish Premier Football League. As both a coach and a player, Foster has an impressive record of accomplishments; he guided the program to three Sun Belt Conference Tournament appearances (2018, 2020, and 2021), the program’s first-ever Sun Belt Tournament Championship (2018), the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament (2018) appearance, and a single-season program record 13 wins (2018), including multiple championships and record-breaking performances.
Since the day Foster arrived at the Valley, he had expectations and plans already in process for the team. As he said,
“We got to compete, the investment that the school is making in athletics direction and Dr. Bailey we got to start finding a way to have championships, that’s our goal and it’s a lot of work but the potential is here”.
Foster Accepted the offer last Thursday, drove to the Valley on Sunday, and met the players on Monday. As He commented to Vaquero Radio, he has already started with the team’s training because of his relationships with the team, which is key for success.
“Winning is important that speaks for itself but also who he is as a coach is key to the program”- Chasse Conque
Conque said that it takes a special coach such as Foster to build a bridge between the coach, athletes, the program, and the community.
