Last Thursday, UTRGV Fraternity and Sorority Life hosted a Greek Life Mixer that showcased various fraternities and sororities on campus.

Lead Student Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life Estrellita Lopez said there are 11 organizations located in both campuses but predominantly on the Edinburg campus.

Delta Zeta Vice President of Membership Savanah Torres said the purpose of her sorority is having a well-balanced sisterhood with a combination of philanthropy and community service.

“Our girls are very close,” Torres said, “And it’s very empowering to be with a group of girls, especially in college. … So, some people have a hard time studying. We study together. We are always pushing each other to grow.”

Phi Kappa Theta Social Chair Ramon Vasquez said his fraternity focuses on love, god and brotherhood.

“If you are looking for a brotherhood to have fun, join Phi Kappa Theta,” Vasquez said.

Omega Delta Phi Standards Joselito Hernandez Jr. said the main purpose of the fraternity is to graduate its members and provide a service to the community.

Alpha Sigma Tau Chapter President Jacqueline Gallardo said her sorority’s principles are graciousness, respect, intellect, connections and excellence.

Other fraternities and sororities showcased in the event included Kappa Delta Chi, Sigma Lambda Gamma and Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority Inc.
