Over the week UTRGV Women’s Volleyball took down WAC opponent Chicago State 3 sets to 0 at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. Despite the strong victory for UTRGV, it was an emotional night, as it would be the last time 5 UTRGV seniors would be playing at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. Those seniors include, Paulina Ramirez, Talita Oliveira, Julia Moctezuma, Draik Banks, and Barbara Silva, who after the game talked about the journey over the last 4 years at UTRGV.

“Well I woke up crying not going to lie, I cried a lot today already. I was very emotional at the beginning of the game I had to be firm to not start crying during the game, cause its been a great journey for me here this 4 years. I can only say thank you to everyone involved to like teammates coaching staff this staff that work here like every home game. All the support that I got here from community all the people that I met.”

UTRGV Volleyball Head Coach Todd Lowery also had kind words for the seniors on the 2019 UTRGV Volleyball team.

“First of all, thank-you to those seniors, you know like what an amazing group of girls. What they have meant to this program over the course of years that they have been here, but really what they have done for our program the mentality that they have coming to practice coming to games and working hard everyday.”

With the victory UTRGV will receive the 4th seed at the western athletic conference volleyball tournament in Orem Utah. Their first match up is against 5th seed Utah Valley University. A team that coach lowery knows will be a tough, hard fought game, against one of the better blocking teams in the WAC.

“Utah Valley is a tremendous blocking team if they cause us problems, it’s with their block. We’ve really focused in on covering our hitters and doing a little better job at giving those confidence to take big swings and we are going to cover them up.”

UTRGV will play against Utah Valley University Thursday November 21st at 7p.m., and you can watch the game live on ESPN+. For more updates and highlights visit goutrgv.com.
