Campus Activities Board in association with Student Union organized UTRGV Groove, an event where students can design and dye their own T-Shirt in the spirit of Homecoming week. Biomedical Senior and Campus Spirit Chair Crystal Rodriguez says the event joins and creates sense of community between students.
“It is a way to get everyone together, as we see today, a lot of people even though they do not know each other, they are like “Oh here this color, do this combination and also like between them have somehow a sense of spirit and community.”
The event was hosted last Tuesday on Edinburg Campus’ Chapel Lawn, and last Wednesday in the Brownsville Campus Library Lawn. The event allowed students to express themselves dyeing T-Shirts in any way they liked to show their school spirit. Student Program Advisor for the Campus Activities Board, Maria Almanza says the event is for students to show their love for the school.
“It’s for students to be able to you know come out and enjoy events during homecoming week and spirit week, which is when they are supposed to go all out and you know really show the love they have for the school and their basketball team.”
The event provided many colorful dyes, and a free t-shirt for students with their IDs. There were many faculty members assisting and orientating students to dye their T-shirts. Exercise Science Senior, Karla Gonzalez say she has been attending the Tie Dye for at least two years.
“…I think the event is very successful, all the years that I have been here at least I have a T-Shirt every year, so yeah I have four T-shirts already that I have dyed.”
The event is done semesterly and expected to continue in the following semesters with Sprit and Homecoming weeks. For more information about future Campus Activity Board events call 956-665-7991.
