Men’s Golf Recap: Vaquero’s at Trinity Forest Invitational

UTRGV Men’s golf attended the Trinity Forest Invitational this past Monday, October 4th through Tuesday, October 5th in Dallas, TX. The event was hosted by Southern Methodist University (SMU).

Fourteen teams participated in the event. The Vaquero’s placed 14 out of 14 during the event. Scoring 295 points in round 1, 311 points in round 2, and 309 points in round three, giving them a grand total of 915 points for the whole tournament. 

For individual placements, here’s how the Vaquero’s did: 

Freshman Lars van der Vight tied for 50th, fellow Freshman Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque tied for 63rd, Sophomore Leonardo Novella tied for 67th, Sophomore Sebastian Lundberg tied for 72nd, and Sophomore Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi finished 76th. 

Van der Vight had the lowest score total of all Vaqueros, placing him highest between them. Novella had the team’s best 3rd round score, finishing with a score of 73 and 229 total. 

The event’s host SMU would go on to win the tournament and their very own Noah Goodwin would also take the individual first place title. 

The Vaquero’s started another tournament today, Monday, October 11th at the Bentwater Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Sam Houston State University. The event will be in Montgomery, TX at the Bentwater Country Club. The event will continue through until Wednesday, October 13th.
